Performance

As a luxury three-row family SUV, the Volvo XC90 is necessarily a larger model. Still, it has no problem getting quickly up to speed thanks to ample internal motivation from any of its three engine options. All powertrains pair with smooth and precise 8-speed automatic transmission.

• T5: The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel-drive is standard, and all-wheel-drive is available.


• T6: The T6 engine adds a supercharger to the T5's turbocharger. The resulting Twincharger engine produces 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The T6 powertrain also adds all-wheel-drive, leather upholstery, and navigation to the XC90's list of standard features.


• Recharge: This plug-in hybrid powertrain adds an electric motor and battery to the T6's Twincharger engine, improving both power and fuel-efficiency. Total output reaches 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque, and Recharge models can travel around 18 miles on all-electric power before switching to gasoline. The Recharge powertrain also includes all-wheel-drive, leather upholstery, navigation, and an 11-speaker premium audio system as standard features.
